If we’re to believe that every journey begins with but a single step, then we also need to understand that a single step alone won’t get you where you want to be.

My first step came as a result of happenstance combined with the realization that my laziness, poor eating habits, and advancing age weren’t doing me any favors. As evidenced by my abysmal “before” pictures it seemed as though I thought the earth’s gravitational pull alone wasn’t sufficient enough to keep my feet planted firmly on the ground. But my moment truly arrived when I would walk by a mirror and feel the horror of seeing an old, fat guy staring back at me.

As with many of you, I would get recommendations for fitness programs or facilities that a friend or family member really enjoyed. After some cajoling from family combined with self-examination, I finally visited a facility and decided to give it a go. However, after a brief period of time, I quickly came to the realization that it wasn’t for me.  And here’s where the happenstance comes in. Offered at the same time in an adjacent room was a program called “Training for Warriors”. I gave it a try and knew instantly this is where I belonged. Thus, my journey had begun.

I plunged headlong into this new experience expecting miracles. Instead, I found I was woefully out of shape and that this wasn’t going to be an easy task. But at every turn, when I thought I was having a setback, Coach Neil would come up with one of his patented “modifications” as he calls them. If I couldn’t do A, then he’d have me try B. If that didn’t work, there were always more variations to try. Which is a testament to Coach Neil’s ability to work within any individual’s physical limitations, but yet provide you with the essentials needed for a productive workout. But at the end of it all, I came away with a sense that my journey was heading in the right direction. However, it didn’t stop there. Coach Carrie was always at the ready to help identify and suggest meaningful ways to get me thinking differently about my diet and nutritional intake. And no, I’m not talking about eating rabbit food. We call it “cooking with Carrie”. But you’ll have to find out about that on your own.

Now, at this point, I could brag to you about the number of pounds I’ve lost or the fact that I can finally open a pickle jar. Instead I’d prefer to impress upon you that Training for Warriors was/is a life altering experience.

Coaches Carrie & Neil Brzoza provide the most comprehensive total fitness program you’ll find. Let’s be honest, you can go anywhere and lift weights or do pushups till you’re a sweaty mess. But at Training for Warriors it’s more. Much more. From Coach Neil’s expertly implemented fitness routines to Coach Carrie’s vast array of menu/dietary suggestions, they provide continual support and motivation that can’t be matched.

But of equal or even greater importance is the camaraderie. The Brzoza team has managed to create an atmosphere where even one person’s victory, no matter how large or small, is truly embraced and applauded by all. I can tell you first hand how incredibly motivating this can be. So believe me when I tell you, Coaches Neil and Carrie at TFW West Bay will be there to provide you with the guidance and encouragement you’ll need to complete your journey. All you have to do is take that first step.
